The Deaf Unit is a sign bilingual primary school for deaf children based in Cairo, Egypt. The school offers 70 places with 8 classes in the kindergarten and primary levels.

Objective: To educate hearing-impaired children to be successful students in school and prevocational training, and provide them a secure, well-resourced, healthy, and stimulating living and educational environment.

Aims:

To maximize our children’s social, emotional and cognitive development through the use of Arabic Sign Language

To teach our children with age-appropriate levels of attainment across the whole curriculum in a manner that fosters creativity, independence, cooperation, resourcefulness, and high academic achievement

To develop high levels of self-esteem and confidence in our children so they view themselves as successful, independent learners

To encourage students to develop a healthy understanding of, and respect for, others’ worldviews and ideas, realizing that all individuals are of equal value and status

To work closely with parents and communities to foster healthy relationships, ensuring equality and equal opportunities

The Deaf Unit accepts hearing impaired children from all over Egypt, with priority given to serve the ones who live farthest from the school.  We currently house 54 of the 70 students, ages 5-17, during the week.
